bangkok rocks!
bangkok was like damn fun la! think it was one of the better trips so far, or at least recently. bought some tee shirts, some pants (which do not fit; bloody hell), some bags and loads of snacks! not too bad really. spent the equivalent of $300-400 on shopping and food alone at least. friends tell me that it considered cheap already, so i shall not be local and complain that i feel slightly broke.
managed to get myself down with mild food poisoning on the first day, i swear that it is the lychee juice. rule #1 for travel people, AVOID the bloody juice at the breakfast buffet. it must have been done like 4 hours ago or something like that.
the satay at the road side stalls are simply delicious. they have this thick layer of fat and are marinated for like damn long to give that smoky, bbq-ed but not burnt taste. tam freaked out at the giant sotong, cos it had some liquid stuff inside but it was alright. they didn't really remove the hard head plate covering though. felt like eating plastic at one point. give me grilled sotong over bbq-ed sotong anyday!
stayed at this hotel called baiyoke sky, located smack right in the middle of pratunam market. those people there have gone 'wholesale'! it is nearly impossible to bargain with them below 50% anymore. they just look at you and go 'wholesale already! no more cheaper!' gawd, they even let you walk away nowadays!!
*typical conversation nowadaysGoods Owner(BO): 750 baht!
Me: 300 baht!
GO: no no! the cotton very good. handmade! see, you feel!
Me: 400 baht!
GO: cannot. *shakes head* 700 baht!
Me: *pretend to consider* *shakes head* best price how much?
GO: 700 baht can? please sir?
Me: 450 baht, i buy now. if not i walk away.
GO: cannot cannot. this wholesale price. wholesale cheap already. cannot cheaper.
Me: *walks away*
GO: *turns away*
i mean, what the hell was that all about? they are supposed to go at least 30% below. now with this wholesale shit, they claim they cannot even go 100 baht off the price. those selling shoes (poor tam), and accessories are the worst! they won't even round down the price, to the nearest 50 baht. basket. i think, 9 months later, if i go again, it would probably be difficult, they will say 'prices are non-negiotiable'. or something to that effect.
then i will stop shopping in bangkok. heh. *grin*
I completed KOTOR!!
Inspirethereal Completes KOTOR in 43h20m!Coruscant - It is four thousand years before the Galatic Empire and hundreds of Jedi Knights have fallen in battle against the ruthless Sith.
Inspirethereal has heeded the call of the Jedi Order. Being literally the last hope of the Jedi, he has led a band of freedom fighters in an epic struggle to save the galaxy. Many are the Sith who have fallen in combat to the Inspirethereal.
"It took many nights of playing until 2am and the odd 5am over the weekend, coupled with good hand eye coordination and a lot of intelligent guesswork but it's all in the bag," said Inspirethereal, Jedi Master. "There was this fight that took me nearly 30mins, just before facing Darth Malak, where I had to continually fight this room full of droids that kept being recreated by the Starforge. In the end, I realised that i had to hack into the Starforge computer systems to disable the recreation process," continued Inspirethereal.
"I could have perished there!" Inspirethereal stated simply.
Well, the Republic is glad that he did not, for he went on to defeat Darth Malak, his former apprentice in single combat. We like to think that Darth Malak learnt the truth of the Source as he slumped to the ground, to his death. There were many Jedi casualties but the Ebon Hawk was able to lift free of the Starforge as Republic forces moved into position to blast it clear out of Republic System space.
"It was a spectacular victory! The Starforge disintegrated after we blasted the orbiting command centre! What a sight!" exclaims Admiral Dodonna, Commander of the Republic Forces, Armed Forces representative to the Senate, Republic Systems Space.
There will be a parade hosted tomorrow for the freedom fighters in the Jedi Tower Gardens on Coruscant. The Jedi Council will be there to award the highest honour onto their prodigal knight, Revan aka Inspirethereal. Prospective audiences are advised to arrive early as there will be security clearances and a large crowd expected.
trying out the new function on Blogspot
anyways, blogspot says that i can load images onto it now. hmmm...lemme try.
hey Lisa, tks for reading! *grin*
what a weekend!
so i thought that the mobilisation was going to be routine i.e. they don't call me. then the London Blasts happened, which btw, i feel sympathetic to the victims. those blasts could have occured almost anywhere, even singapore. we should feel lucky that we weren't the targets this time round.
*minute of silence*
anyway, as i was saying...i wished that there wouldn't be a mob. guess what. there was a mob. i had to bloody report to nee soon camp in the middle of nowhere to walk around the length of the camp, just to register my name in three places, one of which didn't have my name on the nominal roll at all!! oh yah, and to listen to a 'pep' talk by one of my officers too. gosh on a sunday morning.
add to that i had a fever the morning of the mobilisation. was tossing and turning and just really couldn't sleep. double whammy.
food alert!
i have just discovered this new makan place in joo chiat. gosh. yes, maybe i might be a little slow finding out stuff in that area...but what the hell yah. anyways, the new place. right. it's called 'My Mum's Place' and is run by this really friendly, well, mother.
she does really good food, all freshly cooked. when i was there, i saw one of the guys actually preparing the
taupok, by hand. i mean, wow! when do you actually see that anymore?
ok, so for a table of two people, we had the beef hor fan(available in pepper and non-pepper versions), lor hon zhai(vegetarian dish) and the fried
taupok(lightly crispy on the outside, soft moist filling on the inside). the food came really quickly, we are looking at like 15 mins max for everything to arrive together. the menu also had some of the other favourites ,your bean paste beef,
har chong kai, sambal kangkong etc.
the full meal came up to about $24 for the two of us. it was a really fulfilling meal, not too filling(especially when it's dinner time), and importantly not too bland. all in all, a satisfying meal. *grin*
oh yeah, the
orh ni comes highly recommended by samantha as well.
Light-saber duel anyone?
you folks got to check this one out!
cripes! it's what we always thought should have been made when we were kids.
