longest 45 minutes of my week

so there i was doing my work and after painstakingly collating information from various sources, and finally into one document and saved into a specific folder....the folder disappears.

and not only does it disappear into the recycle or trash bin but it is like totally gone...not to be found anywhere at all within the system. can you imagine the shock and frustration felt in varying degrees within the next 60 seconds of life?

and then it becomes another hour of doing the same collation and documentation and saving...into two different locations this time...all the while hoping that the client doesn't call and ask about the status of the document.

and they say technology makes living and working easier. sometimes i wonder.

kena mobilisation

what a way to end the day. come home see this letter with government header. then look and see the addressee...see my rank and name. i think 'fwah, this time really jia lat. sure tio already lor.'

open it, see point #1 - please take note that the CSH mobilisation manning for WY2005/2006 would be as follows: blah blah blah...#4 blah blah blah with this system in place..blah blah...update personal particulars, example: Mobile number.

you know, the way i see it, there probably is a reason why so many NSMen aren't updating their mobile numbers, especially when mobile penetration in the population is above 90%.

but if i see it, i wonder whether THEY see it. cos if THEY don't then i think that there might be someone really really dense in THEIR camp. heh.

anyways, so there it is, kena mobilisation already. the next worst thing to come home to and receive would be reservist letter.

*choi! touch wood!*

ching-gay?

they closed off orchard road for the chingay parade earlier today and i think tomorrow. i wonder who are the people who actually pay money to buy tickets to get seats? never been thru, much less sat thru a chingay festival? to me it seems like a real good commercial reason to keep the tourists coming.

'ooo dear...there is a ching-gay fest-ti-vaaall! we MUST visit singapore. we will pay ridiculous prices at hotels but then it will be worth it to watch a smaller scale version(and safer) of other bigger, better known festivals around the world!'

oh yah, happy chinese new year everyone! fifteen days of CNY and a long drought ahead to National day. yes it doesn't fill me with joy to think about that.there was this email being circulated around about how to maximise your leave turning 20 days into 49 days or something. i wonder who sits around with all that time to go figure out the complicated solutions to these kind of problems.

the event on Feb 15 rocked. got good attendance rates, good coverage and good feedback. hope all future events follow the same routine. *grin* but it's a good start and i am proud that i managed to contribute somewhat to it. not exactly the same as last time when i used to handle entire events but now finding the PR niche angle to it. that has to be good.

what differentiates a funky shirt from a non-funky shirt?

nokia awards night 2005 Posted by Hello

chinatown blues?

The sentiment of stall owners is generally bleak, "There are many people but few are buying. They keep bargaining." sentiments from Chinatown store owners , article from Channel News Asia.

now that is really funny. i wonder if the prices weren't placed so high in the beginning, whether more people would buy from them. or if the portions weren't so small, that if they were more generous, would more people decide to purchase?or rather, if the portions were reasonable and the prices slightly higher, just maybe more people might decide that they do not mind being conned.

walked through chinatown in the past week. still think it is madness. what more on CNY eve? river hong bao? hah!

anyways, loading a photo from the Nokia awards night last friday evening. it's funny how the dress code can say black tie and we get away with wearing formal. =)

re-discover adobe photoshop + image ready

did a collage, without using powerpoint. and decided that for the ethereal reverie website, if i don't do photoshop well then i shouldn't be putting pictures on it as backgrounds. besides it takes forever to find a font that can be seen clearly against the background pictures.

=)

so monday wasn't such a abd day afterall. learnt something new, means that i can sleep well at night. tomorrow is chinese new year eve, means that i can go home early from work. that's a nice combination.

i love my FIFA 2005

i cannot begin to express how greatful i am to the FIFA 2005 prodcucers. they have proven that 5 hours of straight play of a game can be such a relaxer. *gush* and i still feel like i should just sit down and play somemore.

central to east to central to east

took a long train ride from tampines to outram and got right back into the groove of people watching.realised how simple it is to make a presumption, to decide whether a person is such & such or a lady is 'that kind'. *laughs*

saw a couple with two large red bags full of items and all. and the husband(?) was like this normal middlish old age guy and the lady looked kinda like a little mentally challenged and was throwing kind of like a little silent temper.so she refused to get off the train when the husband got off and looked really really kinda peeved. mentally challenged only because she had this gaze in her eyes that intuitively you try and not look anymore.

but what really got to me was that her husband stood parallel to the track and looked through the windows at her, as the train doors closed. his face was utterly completely sad. i had to turn away.

~~~
chinatown is a madhouse. you have people trying to rip the living money out of you and you have even more people throwing that money at the rip-pers. what a sight? and the horrible place is drawing the un-initiated to it like ants to honey.
incredible.
displacement amidst chinatown
so i took a walk through chindatown last night, thinking to catch a glimpse of the crowd, take a dip into the hype surrounding the building up of excitment over CNY, and perhaps just grab a good bargain or so...
still all i saw was a lot of people (at least i got to see my crowd), not many bargains ($10 for 3 small itsy bitsy containers of goodies do not count) and no involvement in the pieces of life within.
is it just me? but walking through the throngs of bodies, i actually felt colder as a person moving through them. like it didn't matter that they were actual, solid, living human beings but just obstacles and barriers to where i was heading to (which again wasn't anywhere; i was drifting).
